In order to develop pilot projects with higher impact on Georgian agriculture, the first pilot pre-selection meeting was held on December 6, 2019. The potential pilot projects were presented by the Technical Consultant to AFD (Ms. Sirarpi Haykazyan) and ARDA (Mr. Archil Bukia and Mr. Konstantin Khutsaitdze) representatives. Mr. Merab Kakulia from the Partnership Fund also participated in the meeting to give his opinions and comments on the proposed interventions.
The Country Director of Mercy Corps, Mr. Irakli Kasrashvili, the Country Director of RDFG, Mr. Vano Grigolashvili, and the Senior Project Manager of Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Ms. Cansu Karatay has also attended to the meeting, alongside several other participants.
Ms. Sirarpi Haykazyan gave an opening speech on the operation and goals of FinExCoop as well as the pre-evaluation method of the pilots.
Mr. Christophe Cordonnier, Team Leader of FinExCoop Georgia, continued the discussion by explaining three major objectives of the project; which are the (i) marketing to see what small players can develop and be competitive at, (ii) developing better fodder and feed by benefiting from new experimental seeds, which the project team had already planted in Arkhiloskalo region in Georgia, and technology, and (iii) having a better genetics.
After the opening speeches, a presentation was made to AFD and ARDA executives by the project team on how the potential pilots were selected. Thereafter, AFD and ARDA voted for each pre-selected pilot. The selected pilots will be implemented as from 2020 with the involvement of local and international experts of FinExCoop Georgia team.
